Cartography
Nowadays, developing a mapping application might seem like a relatively simple task, but before Google Maps dominated the market, I had the opportunity to design a fleet tracking solution for Prosegur. The concept was straightforward, but the execution was challenging: install a GPS with a SIM card in each vehicle, send location data via SMS to a Nokia phone (those indestructible ones) connected to a server, read the messages using AT commands, and upload the coordinates to a database. Finally, using Geofactory maps, we displayed the vehicle positions on a web interface.
During the same period, I was also involved in route calculation for the EMT Madrid bus lines. One of the biggest challenges was ensuring that not all routes passed through Puerta del Sol, regardless of the destination. Despite the initial headaches, the website remained online for many years. Additionally, I contributed to a prototype for the Madrid Metro, which, while promising, unfortunately never came to fruition.
